Photo Album for the Larry Alan Thorne Special Forces Memorial Chapter XXXIII

Matt Matteson took a huge number of photographs of our chapter meetings and outings up to the time of his death. He placed the photographs in five albums and one Honor Roll album. He identified some of the photos as to place, time and event but for the most part the photos were simply placed in an album with no comments as to where or when they were taken. I found that many of the photos in the different albums were taken at the same event or meeting. I was, therefore, able to condense the five albums to four. The Honor Roll album are photos and documents of those members who have died.

Unfortunately, the albums have not been very well cared for and many of the photos have stuck together. I’ve tried to “unstick” them by following the advice I received from several photo gurus and from instructions I found on the Internet. Sometimes the advice worked but in many cases the photos were damaged when I pulled them apart.

The task, for me at least, was to try and place all Matt’s photos (and there are hundreds of them) on the computer in some sort of order so we would have a lasting copy of them. My idea to place each photo in it’s proper time and event is a daunting task without the help of all other chapter members. In some cases I’ve matched one photo with another by using the identification code on the back of the photo. Other times I’ve placed photos together if the surroundings match but quite often I have grouped photos where I thought they should go. It is in this last area that I need the most help and any help from our chapter members would be greatly appreciated. I think, as you wonder through these albums, you’ll realize just how many of our comrades have passed over the hill and these photos are all we have left to remember them by.

Each album file will have various links to specific events or simply “album 1, album 2...” I’ve also made comments on some photos in some of the albums but the data may or may not be true. Also, please keep in mind that these photos were taken many, many years ago and some are not in the best of shape. Another good reason to put them in digital form. If anyone out there knows where and when the photos were taken please let me know.
