Summer Chapter Meeting, August 2006

Cleveland, Tennessee
25 - 27 August 2006

Well lads and lasses. We finally made it. It was touch and go there for awhile but perseverance prevailed and we finally got our summer meeting in. The original meeting was set for July in Ashville, NC but Ashville in the summer time is flooded with tourists and the price of a room was astronomical. Then it was set up for July (I believe) in Cleveland, TN but we could only get a few hotel rooms. It looked as if we were going to have to go without a summer meeting until some persevering soul found available rooms at the Holiday Inn for the latter part of August.

We had a full house for the weekend of 25-27 August and it was a good thing. We had much to discuss. There were items left over from January's meeting to finish up because we didn't have a quorum in Hampton, Virginia in May. There were also many things to discuss about the annual convention at Fort Bragg, NC in June and these items would require much discussion and soul searching. It was a good thing that we had a great turn out.

Since this was a rather quickie, quickie get-together, we didn't have the usual sit down dinner on Saturday. Most of us did hit the new American Legion on Friday night for dinner. Whoever designed this new building should really be congratulated. It is a far cry from the old Legion. At least you didn't feel like you were in a rather large barn.

Saturday we were on our own until 1300 hours. The meeting had been moved up one hour and was scheduled for two hours because of the large agenda. The business from our January meeting was quickly disposed of and the remaining time was spent discussing the problems and agenda from the National Convention at Fort Bragg, NC in June.

We may not have had a formal sit-down dinner but we did have an auction. We finally got rid of all the knives someone (I won't mention who) bought from Emperor Sun Yat Sin. They were going for $5 and $10 a box. Each box contained about a dozen blades. And our boy, Ken Stickney, casually mentioned that at least twelve people will be receiving Christmas presents this year. It was a very good auction even with the majority sales going for $5 or $10. Our auctioneers, Harry Mathews and Mitch Greene, did a great job in bringing in about $850. Thanks to all you guys that bought all those blades and to our auctioneers for a job well done.

Then it was Sunday and another Chapter Meeting, in the long list of Chapter Meetings, came to a close. A lot of blurry-eyed individuals staggered from their rooms to their cars, vans, trucks or horse carts for the long drive home.

Naturally, there are photos to be viewed if you want. Just click on this tab to pull up them up. Hope you enjoy it.

See you in Americus in October.
