Alert Order for October 2006

Special Forces Association
Chapter 33 Fall Meeting

The Winter Chapter Meeting will be held in Brevard, North Carolina in January 2007. This meeting is being hosted by our VP, Mike DiRocco and associates. At this printing, we're not too sure who (or what) an "associate" consists of.

And, guys and gals, this ALERT Order is official! All of you can now finalize your plans for the month of January, 2007. That's about 2+ months from now and everyone in this chapter should have been asked to confirm that they are or are not coming. Mike tells me this is going to be a great meeting.
Detailed Information:
The WHAT and the WHEN
Chapter XXXIII's Winter Meeting will be held on 19 - 21 January 2007. This is a Friday through Sunday get together.
The Wherefores:
Hampton Inn
800 Forest Gate Center
Pisgah Forest, NC 28768
Phone: (828) 883-4800
NOTE: Use the above telephone number. The special room rate for this weekend is $65.00/night (for any type room)plus taxes. To receive this rate you have to make your reservations NLT 5 January 2007. If you fail to make this cutoff date you will be charged the going rate of $89.00 for a double or $95.00 for a king. So make that call before 5 January 2007!!!

Also make sure you mention that you are with Chapter 33 Special Forces Association or you won't get that 65 buck rate regardless of when you call.

I guess I better mention here that all rooms are NON-Smoking unless you specifically ask for a smoker. So don't moan and groan that you haven't been warned.

Also make sure you get a confirmation number.
Directions
The Hampton Inn is located on your right, in the Wal Mart/Belk Shopping Center, as you drive west into Brevard on SR 280. The shopping center is just before the intersection of SR 280 and HW 64 west. If you have problems with these directions then I would really recommend you buy a map, invest in a GPS system or give Mike a call.
Other Incidentals:
There are no Other Incidentals at this time.
Disclaimer:
This meeting is being hosted by Mike Di Rocco and he has given the all incidentals to our Secretary who, in turn, has issued this Alert Order to everyone with an e-mail address. For the unfortunate few who refuse to get a pc, you're going to have to wait until you get your notification via Snail Mail.
Hospitality Room:
Hours of operation :
The Hospitality Room will open at 1200 hours, Friday, 19 January 2007 and will remain open as long as our president sees fit. That will probably mean from 1200 hours, Friday until 1200 hours Sunday. The Brevard Health Department may require the room to be closed for short periods between Friday and Sunday in order to wash the place down and sweep out the die-hards.
The Agenda:
Friday - 19 January 2007
Those of you who plan to come in on this day will probably check into the Hampton Inn, toss your bags in the room and head out to see what's cooking in the Hospitality Room. Not only will there be the normal run-of-the-mill cold beer, mixed drinks and snacks, but also some home-made Award-winning Chili. Now no one has mentioned who is making this Award-winning Chili, but remember Mike owned a restaurant at one time.

Dinner, if you're still hungry, is "on your own". There are several restaurants in the shopping area or you can ask the people at the front desk for their recommendations as to where you can find American, Continental, Steak Houses, Barbeque or other fine dinning establishments.
Saturday - 20 January 2007
0600-0800 hours (or there abouts) you can enjoy an enhanced continental breakfast in the Hampton Inn lobby area. Again, I'm not too sure what is included in the "Enhanced" part, but if the Hampton Inn's breakfast is anything like we've had on our last meeting, I don't think you will want to miss it.

1130-1400 hours: Hospitality room which will consist of team training and welcoming old friends. Suggested ladies activities are the many antique shops in the Brevard and Hendersonville area. They might even want to view the waterfalls in the Pisgah National Forest or tour the Biltmore House in Ashville.

1400-1500 hours: Chapter business meeting. Grab your beers and drinks and snacks because I'm told El Presidente is going to close the bar until after the meeting.
Guest Speakers
Major General Jack Osteen (retired) will be our first guest speaker. He is a West Point graduate (class of 1948). He is highly decorated and served in Korea and South Vietnam, where he commanded a brigade of the 101 (ABN) Division. MG Osteen also served in Thailand and was Colonel Roger Donlon's commanding officer. MG Osteen will speak for about 20-30 minutes.

Colonel Robert Rankin USAF (retired) will be our second guest speaker. Colonel Rankin is a double fighter Ace from World War II and flew F86 Sabre jets in Korea. Colonel Rankin will speak for about 15-18 minutes.

1500-1800 hours (depending on how long the meeting lasts): You can do whatever pleases your young hearts. The ladies will probably still be out seeing the sights and sounds of Brevard so the men might as well hit the Hospitality room.

1830-?: Dinner. This will be a catered buffet in the Hospitality room. Prescribed uniform of the day (if it still fits) is the SFA Blazer, white shirt, regimental tie and black slacks. As Mike said..."we need to strut our stuff..." If the blazer doesn't fit then a suit or sport coat is acceptable. I think the ladies will also enjoy dressing up.

Auction:
And yes, Virginia, there's going to be an Auction. In fact our VP has coerced none other than Charlie Ponds and Stan Shank to step before this unruly group and get rid of all the hard-to-throw-away items that have been sitting in your closets, garages, attics and sheds for years.

This auction will take place sometime after the buffet.
Financial Responsibilities:
Registration:
Ah, yes, guys and gals. Now comes the time to get down to the nitty gritty. It's time to dig into those money bags or into those bulky mattresses. The Hospitality room is going to cost you $15.00/person. That's going to allow you to snack, drink, munch and drink some more all weekend.

The catered buffet dinner on Saturday night will cost you $30.00/person.

The total for the weekend will be $45.00/person. Now that ain't too much for a weekend of drinking, eating and enjoying the company.

If you need clarification about any of the information on this alert order our VP, Mike Di Rocco will be available 24/7 to answer any and all questions. If he can't answer them, he can always buck the question up the chain of command to our president, Bill Long.

Also Mike did mention in passing that late arrivals can pay at the door. Still, if you're going it make this meeting, it might be a good idea to get this money thing out of the way and I'm sure Mike would appreciate it.
